I Believe

                                                   I Believe

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”      Philippians 4:6,7

  WHAT I BELIEVE

I am always ready to share the happy; good things in my live as well as the moans & groans with  friends … and sometimes anyone that shows the least bit of interest! There are a few things however that are so deeply personal that I am often more reluctant to share than I ought to be.

This is true of the most important thing in my life, which is life itself, my personal relationship with Jesus Christ, my Saviour.

I would like to share what I believe with you.

The Bible says that everyone sins & is separated from God.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

That certainly includes me!

As a child I was taught about God’s love for me. I love the passage that tells me God knew me before I was born …

You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother’s womb. … you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book before any of them ever began.  Psalms 139: 13, 16 (Living Bible)

And the passage that tells God knows the  number of hairs on my head … even if I continually moan how I hate my hair!

“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered" … Matthew 10: 30

As I grew older I recognized that I was a sinner & ask Jesus to come into my life so I could be His child & live the way He planned for me.

 Born again!
Not a term made up by extreme right wing fanatics but the words of Jesus!

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”     John 3:3

Over the years since that time I have never been disappointed in God’s care for me. He has always been faithful … even though I have not always been faithful to Him.

When I read how Jesus suffered on the cross for me
I know I can never be worthy of such a sacrifice.
How can I really believe that I am “saved” and His child?

I believe because the Bible says:

“For God loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life”     John 3:16

“I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life”    John 8:12

"...and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand."    John 10:28

… and I’m  grateful for this scripture:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; that not of yourself, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.         Ephesians:  2:8,9

Salvation is offered as a gift from God through Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for sin & His resurrection … I have accepted that gift by faith.

"Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6

I am so thankful for God’s love, compassion, and forgiveness.

I’m thankful for His guidance in my life; for His protection & loving-kindness for the many times when I go my own way.

Lord, you have examined me and you know me. You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. You see me whether I am working or resting; you know my action. Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding ... Psalms 139: 1-6  (Living Bible)

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your path straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body, And refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8

God's promises are so comforting.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light”     Matthew 11: 28-30

I’m thankful for the promise of eternal life.

“Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself; that where I am there you may be also. I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me”      John 14:1-4,6

I want to say with this very simple testimony that God is faithful & if you give Him a try you won’t be sorry. He gives peace beyond the circumstances of life. (I’m learning that all over again!)

“You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.”      Isaiah 26:3

If you would like to give God a chance the best place to start is just whispering a prayer asking that your heart & mind will be open to His Word.

Then get a good translation of the Bible & begin to read! Let God's true & proven Word speak to you ... don't get caught up in other books. If you want to know who God is you read His Word.

I recommend a the New International Version or New American Standard.

I find a Proverb & a Psalm for worship & preparation
then begin reading in the New Testament

Start with the Gospels & let Jesus’ words speak to you.

The prayer of faith is a simple one if your heart & mind are ready.

Just talk to God ...
Tell him you know you are a sinner & need him to forgive you              through faith in Jesus Christ, His Son

Ask Him to make you a new person (born again!) as you turn away from sin.

Now begins a new adventure in living! It is a daily walk …
and we all have to take those baby steps & spills as the Lord gently picks us up & helps us as we grow.

“Search me, oh God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way”
 Psalm 139:23,24
