God

Who is God ?

"God" is an ok word to use in almost any company at a given, appropriate time that somehow just calls for a higher being. Oh my god, good god, and other phrases are frequently used for exclamation in everyday conversation. We say, God Bless You, God Bless America, and when a person has a problem or a loss in the family, friends and acquaintances alike console & encourage with the pledge to pray for them, presumably to god, but who is the god they are referring to?

"God" has taken on a very generic meaning in our time. In fact, many believe that god is whatever works for you or whoever you choose god to be ... many different ways to the same "end". Many who think this way also say they believe the Bible is God's Word, or at least some of it.

*****

So, who is God ? *** Who is your god ?

The answer is completely dependent on whether you believe that the Bible is the God inspired, God breathed Word, whole and complete as it is.

The Bible is made up of a collection of books (66) written by about 40 different people over a period of many years.
It has 2 compartments known as the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The OT & NT tell the history of God's creation, His plan & purpose for us, and the conclusion of human history on earth.

I believe the Bible is the full & complete Word of the living God for mankind.

It has stood the test of time even though throughout time many have tried to destroy it.
It has been proven to be historically accurate.
Discerning scientists have concluded that the story of creation is the only thing that makes sense.
It is dependable, without error, & unchanging. (If you think there is an inconsistency, research it within the context & you'll find none.)

Who is my God?
It is the Living God of the Bible the One & only true God:

"Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below. There is no other." Deuteronomy 4:39 NIV

***************

The Bible teaches that man is sinful and can only have fellowship with God after atonement for his sins.
The OT Law shows that it is impossible for man to keep the law in both thought and deed and so there was a need daily sacrifices.
Jesus, God's divine & only son came to make the final sacrifice for sin.
Through faith in Jesus Christ's death for all our sins & His resurrection as victory over the penalty of death, we are born again and have full assurance of fellowship with God as his children.

"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" John 3:3 NIV (Jesus' words)

"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." John 17:3-5 NIV (Jesus' words)

My God created me, saved me, & made me His child as He forgave me all my sins through my faith alone in Jesus (how could I dare to think anything I could do would be able to add to the completed work of Jesus on the cross), He hears my prayers as He cares for all my concerns in life, He sustains & strengthens me during troubles, He teaches me through His word how to live & continues to forgive me as I ask forgiveness for my failures, and will take me in His time to heaven for eternity!

My God is great!

My God as the Creator:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" Genesis 1:1 NIV

He has given us both his promise and his oath, two things we can completely count on, for it is impossible for God to tell a lie. Now all those who flee to him to save them can take new courage when they hear such assurances from God; now they can know without a doubt that he will give them the salvation he has promised. This hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls..." Hebrews 7:17-19 LB

***************

"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered." (Jesus' words) Matthew 10:30 NAS

My God is Father, Son & Holy Spirit in One:

"Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me ... Isaiah 46:9 NAS

"And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased'." Matthew 3:16,17 NAS

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them (my note: an outward sign of an inward union & commitment to Christ) in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit ..." (Jesus' words) Matthew 28:19 NIV

"In the beginning was the Word, (my note: the Word always references Jesus & this passage was the Apostle John speaking of Jesus) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. John 1:1-3 NIV

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14 NIV

The Trinity is a very hard concept to grasp for most. I don't even pretend to be a theologeon to address this but here is a very simple thought that may help:

An egg is one but it is a shell, a yolk, & white.

My God is Coming Again:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms: if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me ... John 14:1-3 NIV (Jesus' words)

***************

Many people have written books about God, but God has only written one book: the Bible!

***************
