Our Farm Home ~ Winter Time |

|
Our home was built in 1904. It has lots of "character" ... not all good! LOL The cement for the foundation of the house was made with gravel hauled by wagon up from Beaver Creek a few miles from our house. The creek is almost always dry these days but Ron remembers swimming in it as a boy after a rain. Rain? ... What is that? Drought conditions here now. The house has two floors, a standing height unfinished attic, & a full unfinished basement. The kitchen originally had a dummy waiter ... that is now us! Lol! The workings for it are still in the basement. We are told the tiles for the fireplace were imported from Europe. They are pretty simple but must have been "uptown" in that day. The firebox was small but with a lovely cast iron floral embellished door. We hated to take that out but decided we mostly preferred our fire on & off at will so installed a gas fireplace a few years ago. The woodwork is all pine & oak & in fairly good condition on the main floor ... not as good upstairs. There are 3 chandeliers in the dining, living, & music room area. They are fairly simple too but hard to keep clean. Still, we haven't had the heart to replace them. We have opened the wrap around porch & I will get an updated picture soon! Current project is new siding & paint & new porch floor & deck ... and many others! We love our old place even with all that needs done to it ... It is HOME!
